Amri-Karbis oppose move to expand Guwahati

DIMORIA, July 3: Six Amri-Karbi organizations have opposed the decision to expand Guwahati up to Dimoria.

Addressing the press at the PWD Inspection Bungalow at Sopur on Monday, the leaders of the six organizations said: “Under no circumstances, we will allow expansion of Guwahati up to Dimoria. We’re here to start a vigorous agitation to prevent that from happening.”

Amri-Karbi Jatiya Parishad president Padum Ingti said: “Expansion of Guwahati without providing indigenous people STs land pattas won’t be allowed. Around 80 per cent of families living in the area are agrarian. We’re not ready to allow expansion of the city up to Dimoria without the government providing us land pattas.”

Constitutiol safeguards to the tribal blocks and belts, issuance of land pattas to indigenous people of the State, according ST (Hill) status to the Amri-Karbis, etc., were demanded by the six organizations.

The organizations are Amri-Karbi Jatiya Parishad, Amri-Karbi Chatra Sanstha, Amri-Karbi Bangbe Asem, Amri-Karbi Arls Asem, Amri-Karbi Sahitya Sabha and Amri-Karbi Sanskritic Sanstha.
