GUWAHATI, Jan 20: The Asom Rajyik Anganwadi Sahayika Union (ARASU) and the Mini Anganwadi Karmi Santha (MAKS) staged a dhar in front of the Directorate of Social Welfare at Uzan Bazar in the city today in support of their various demands.
ARASU president Munin Mahanta said: "We've discussed our demands with the then Social Welfare Minister Akon Bora and others many times. Our demands are hike in remuneration, which should be 20 per cent less than that of Anganwadi workers, retirement benefits to Anganwadi helpers, fresh recruitments, bicycle for the helpers, etc. Bora did assure us of meeting our demands at a meeting on November 12 of 2014, but to little avail. We, therefore, staged the dhar in support of our demands today. We have submitted a memorandum to Social Welfare Minister Gautam Roy in support of our demands."
