GUWAHATI, May 15: The Anganwadis are back to the street yet again. The All Assam Anganwadi Workers’ Union and the All Assam Anganwadi Helpers’ Union staged demonstrated at Dighalipukhuripar in the city today in protest against Dispur sending a proposal to the Centre seeking solutions to the problems of Anganwadis in the State instead of taking a decision on its own by Dispur to hike their remuneration. At 11 am they took out a procession from Dighalipukhuri to the Directorate of Social Welfare at Uzan Bazar where too they registered their protest. Their demands are remuneration of Rs 15,000 per month for Anganwadi workers and Rs 10,000 per month for Anganwadi helpers, regularization of their jobs, promotion etc.

Additiol Director Deepak Choudhury and Deputy Director-cum-officer on special duty Bibhash Modi of the Social Welfare Department met the agitators and assured them of holding their meeting with Social Welfare Minister ba Kumar Doley on their demands. The agitators handed over a ten-point charter of demands to the officers addressed to the Chief Minister.

They said that if their demands were not met soon, from May 26 they would resort to ceasework, sit-in strike in front of the Directorate of Social Welfare from June 1 to 10, and continuation of the agitation in other districts of the State thereafter.
