GUWAHATI, July 10: Anganwadis staged a dhar at Dighalipukhuripar in Guwahati on Monday in protest against the government’s failure to address the problems afflicting them, despite repeated pleas.

Asom Rajyik Anganwadi Kormi aru Sohayika Santha (ARAKSS) president Pratima Bora said: “We’ve have been agitating in support of our demands since January 5 this year. However, our problems are still to be solved. We had many talks together and separately with top-level government officials, ministers and the Director of Social Welfare Department. They only give us assurances, but never solve the problems. They just talk the talk, never walk the walk.”

The demands of the Santha are fixing the remuneration of anganwadi workers at Rs 5,000 per month and Rs 3,500 per month for helpers, ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for workers and Rs 1.50 lakh for helpers at the time retirement, making ESI facilities available for all anganwadis, etc.

They sent memoranda to the State Governor and Union Minister for Child and Women Welfare Maneka Gandhi.
