Anganwadis threaten stir

GUWAHATI, Dec 26: Asom Rajyik Anganwadi Karmi aru Sahayika Santha (ARAKSS) has set December 31, 2017 deadline for Dispur to give them a date by which their demands will be met, failing which, the Santha has said, they will resort to agitation at various places in the State from January 3 to 5, 2018.

The demands of the Santha are fixation of an additiol honorarium of Rs 5,000 for Anganwadi workers and Rs 3,500 for Anganwadu helpers per month, ESI facilities for all Anganwadi workers and helpers, ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for workers and Rs 1.50 lakh for helpers at the time of their retirement, facilities for potable water and separate kitchens at all Anganwadi centres, repair of ramshackle anganwadi centres, filling up of vacant anganwadi posts etc. One lakh and seventeen anganwadis have been working in as many as 62,000 anganwadi centres in Assam. In a statement issued to the press on Tuesday the Santha said that they did meet the Chief Minister and the Cultural Affairs Minister who keep them assured of meeting their demands, but to no avail.
