Annual income over Rs 9 lakh needs service tax registration

GUWAHATI, August 20: In its strive to provide assistance to the tax payers in pursuance with the Centre’s initiative for ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and ‘Tax Payers Services’, the Commissionerate of Central Excise and Service Tax, Guwahati organized its second ‘Workshop-cum-Interactive Session’ with the assesses/service providers under the service category, ‘Renting of Immovable Property Services’ on August 19, 2016 in the city. According to a press release, many assesses providing service under the category attended the programme. The department, according to the release, is starting a survey-cum-awareness exercise coupled with facilitation for providers of service under this category to file their application for registration online within thirty days after crossing of taxable value of Rs 9 lakh in the event that are availing the threshold exemption of Rs 10 lakh. Similar workshop-cum-interactive sessions have been slated for August 30, 2016 for service providers under the service category ‘Business Auxiliary Service’, and on September 2, 2016 with the service providers ‘Rent-a-cab service, Air Travel Service; Commercial Training and coaching Centres and Tour Operator Services’, the release added.
