GUWAHATI, March 19: Barak Upatyaka Bango Sahitya O Sanskriti Sanmelan (BUBSOSS) is going to honour poet Brojendra Sinha with Anurupa Biswas Smriti Sanman on March 22 during its 26th conference at Silchar. The sanman is being given to poet Sinha in recognition to his life-long contribution to literature. The three-day conference of the literary body is going to start from March 21.

Dedicated to poetry, ageing and ailing Brojendra Sinha has good grip both on Bishnupriya Manipuri and Bengali literatures. An admirer of poet Sinha’s themes, poetic magic and music, renowned Assamese poet bakanta Barua also translated some Bishnupriya Manipuri poems of Sinha, a living legend in Barak Valley where he lives in sleepy Hailakandi town.

A member of the Axam Xahitya Xabha, poet Brojendra Sinha was instrumental in the holding of the AXX session at Hailakandi. Besides many poetry books, poet Sinha has many works on prose literature, drama and translation. Besides poetry, Bhikhari Baloker Gan (Bengali), Chhanda Parichoi (both in Bengali and Bishnupriya Manipuri), many translation works in Bishnupriya Manipuri, short-story collections, dramas will keep him alive among the posterity.

It was because of such contributions, POURI, Bangladesh honoured the ageing poet with a life-long honour on the occasion of the Intertiol Mother Tongue Day in 2014. Ailing though, the poet keeps in writing. He had retired as the Principal of SS College, Hailakandi long back.

Sadness is that pervades the poet all throughout, and perhaps which was why, the poet told litterateur Subhashish Sinha in an interview published on February 28, 2014 in Pratham Alo, being published from Bangladesh: “Ami jokhon kobita lekhi, dukkho ese aamaar paashe bose thaake (when I write poems, it’s sadness that sits near me.”
