GUWAHATI, Oct 8: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has hit back at Assam Minority Development Board (AMDB) chairman Muminul Aowal and said that the State BJP has started talking incoherent with gossip going in the State against the BJP’s negative role on NRC update.
APCC general secretary and senior spokesperson Apurbha Kumar Bhatacharya reacted sharply to the statement made by Aowal on Saturday. In a statement issued to the press on Sunday, Bhattacharya said: “Aowal is panic-stricken by seeing people’s adverse reaction to the BJP in all minority-domited and other areas in the State. He has started talking incoherent by seeing the anti-government wave in society. It’s unfortute for the BJP to take refuge to falsehood to pass the buck of its failure in NRC update to the Congress. Soon after coming to power in the State, the BJP was campaigning that lakhs of Bangladeshis were trying to get themselves enrolled in NRC through fake documents. The Congress, on the other hand, had always taken steps for NRC update through constitutiol provisions. We still stand by our stand to solve the problem through constitutiol provisions. The BJP sees all intellectuals who helped it to power as its bête noire now. The BJP has been engaged in a politics of hatred to minorities in the State due to fear from the mass support for the Congress. Instead of implementing the Assam Accord in its letter and spirit this government is out to make the Accord a redundant piece of paper. They even don’t hesitate to disown the sacrifices made by the martyrs of the Assam Agitation. We caution the AMDB chairman to desist from trying to be a minority messiah by taking refuge to falsehood. We appeal to him to work for minorities of the State in true sense of the term, instead of making statements aimed to hitting headlines”.
