APCC hits out at Ajmal

GUWAHATI, March 27: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has redirected the brickbats thrown at former State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi by Badruddin Ajmal to the AIUDF chief.

Reacting to Tarun Gogoi and State CLP leader Debabrata Saikia’s sharp reaction to his appeal for an alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF in the 2019 Lok Sabha election so as to stop the BJP upsurge, Ajmal said in a statement yesterday: “…a long spell of defeats in polls has failed to make the Congress and former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi learn the tricks of the trade…

The leaders of the Congress need to learn the definition of commulism first…”

In a statement issued to the press today, the APCC said: “Ajmal needs to learn Gandhiji’s ideology and secularism from the Congress. The Congress has nothing to learn from the AIUDF. Rather Ajmal needs to learn Gandhism and secularism from the Congress that has no room for religious fundamentalism. Ajmal has all along been misleading the common Muslims by casting a spell on them. His political dictiory is bereft of the word ‘development’. He’s out to garner votes through commul politics and spread his business empire. This is his only ideology. His party has no room for democracy, let alone democratic principles. Ajmal’s call to the Muslims of the State to be united in the last Assembly election is still fresh among the people of Assam. The people of the State know it better which party Ajmal’s call helped to form the government at Dispur, by polarizing the voters. Ajmal has all along been deceiving the minorities, let alone working for their welfare. Despite being am MP, he had to fight the last Assembly election from South Salmara LAC against the Congress candidate and bite the dust.”

The APCC further said that the AIUDF workers are a frustrated lot now, after knowing who Ajmal actually is. “We’ve nothing to learn from a party that has no interl democracy, and hence no democratic principles,” the APCC statement said.
