Tezpur varsity stalemate

GUWAHATI, Dec 14: The State Congress has moved the Human Resources Development Ministry to resolve the tangle of Tezpur Central University by appointing a Vice Chancellor. The post has been lying vacant for the last seven months after the retirement of then VC Dr Mihir Kanti Choudhury on May 21, 2017. Stressing that without the head of the higher institution the university has been facing lots of problems. The APCC president who is also a member of the Rajya Sabha has submitted a memorandum over the issue to the Union Minister of Human Resources Development, Prakash Javadekar, and urged him to ensure that the university is freed from any form of political interference. It may be mentioned that the university is presently running by “temporary Vice-Chancellor who is not competent to take any major decisions.”

Pointing out that “the Centre has also not released the required the budget allocated fund to the university”, Bora said that “as a result, the day-to-day administration and academic activities of the university has come to a standstill.” He added that “if this stalemate continues further there will be irreparable loss in the global me and fame of the university. The Tezpur University was established as per the Assam Accord in 1993, and over the years it has been a recipient of a number of intertiol awards in the field of its very high standard of academic performance.
