APCC sniffs Himanta hand in eviction drive

GUWAHATI, Sept 16: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has demanded of NF Railway to stop the latter’s eviction drive in the Pandu area for time being.

In a statement issued to the press today, APCC secretary Imdad Hussain condemned the drive and said: “A rumour has been doing rounds that the eviction drive is being carried out by the State Government. The area falls under Jalukbari LAC. Why is Himanta Biswa Sarma silent on when an eviction drive in his area is being carried out by NF Railway?” Hussain said: “We’ve received allegations that NF Railway is carrying out the eviction drive under pressure from Sarma so as to make the local people rush to him as their saviour. We demand halt to the drive for time being.”
