GUWAHATI, March 4: Women were seen cooking in earthen ovens on GS Road, in front of Rajiv Bhawan in the city today. They used firewood for the purpose. This a newer form of protest the State has even witnessed.

The protest was staged by over 200 Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress (APMC) activists. This was their protest against the steep hike in prices of all commodities, especially cooking gas that is priced at Rs 821 a cylinder now. They shouted slogans against the present dispensations at Delhi and Dispur.

APMCC president Shahz Yasmin Haque said: "The Prime Minister rednra Modi and his government have been harassing the common people by hiking the price of cooking gas. We demand the price of cooking gas should be brought down to Rs 400 per cylinder. Housewives are facing problems for such a steep hike in the price of LGP."

Haque said: "Where're accha din and poriborton?  The BJP government is hoodwinking the people with their false promises. We won't take rest. We'll continue our agitation against hike in prices of LPG till the last drop of our blood. Since when the BJP came to power at the centre some two-and-a-half years ago the prices of all essential commodities rose many times. The policies of the party are anti-poor and anti-women."
