GUWAHATI, Dec 23: The All Assam Water Resources Contractors’ Association (AAWRCA) has rued the fact that the State Revenue Department is yet to approve as many as 36 schemes for repair of embankments worth Rs 114.25 crore as yet. Talking to newsmen in the city today, AAWRCA president Muhi Borgohain and general secretary Arabinda Hazarika said: “The government decided in September this year to implement 98 schemes for the repair of embankments ravaged by floods last year. However, so far only 62 smaller schemes costing Rs 88.75 crore of them have been approved by the Revenue Department. We, therefore, request Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal not to delay the approval of embankment repair schemes so that the state doesn’t have to meet the fate it met last year. We welcome the Chief Minister directive to complete the repair works of all embankments by March 31 next. We, however, think that the Chief Minister should also keep watch on the role of Fince and Revenue Departments in approving various schemes.”
