Army deserter NDFB(S) rebel arrested

DIMORIA, Nov 14: A joint operation by the Army, CRPF and Assam Police personnel at Topatali under Khetri police station in the Sopur area last night led to the arrest of an NDFB(S) rebel, who is an Army deserter.  

According to police sources, acting on a tip-off a team of the Army, CRPF and the police conducted an operation in the Topatali area under Khetri police station around 1 am last night. NDFB(S) rebel Dipak Basumatary (33) was arrested during the raid. An extortion note with the sigture of NDFB(S) fince secretary was recovered from the possession of the rebel, the police said.

The police further said that Dipak Basumatary, hailing from a place under Khoirabari police station in Udalguri district, had been in the Indian Army from 1999 to 2005. He, however, fled the Indian Army in 2005 and joined the NDFB in 2011, since when he has been an active member of the rebel group.
