Arrest Tasha, APCC tells Sonowal

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 9: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has demanded of Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal to arrest Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasha for his act of getting a person held by Gormur police released under duress.

A person was picked up by Gormur police recently for getting arms from an abandoned soap factory located in his premises. However, the MP, along with Golaghat district BJP president Santanu Pujari, rushed to the police station and got the man released. The APCC said: “This is an unhealthy precedent set in the State by the BJP MP. We see such practices in Bihar and UP. Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency was represented by great Parliamentarians like Jayak Debeswar Sarma, Tarun Gogoi, BK Handique and others. The people of Jorhat have to hang their heads in shame for this behaviour by the present MP, a Mafioso. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal speaks of good and transparent governce. How come the act by the MP to get a man, who was held up for possessing illegal arms, released under duress comes under good governce? The State Home Department not taking any action against the erring MP has frustrated the State police force. We also criticize the Chief Minister’s role of a mute spectator in this regard. We demand a high-level inquiry into the incident. If the Chief Minister feels that the law is equal for all and if he has guts he should arrest Tasha and Golaghat District BJP president Santanu Pujari.”
