Ask Centre to take up Assam flood with Chi'

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 24: Reacting to State Fince Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement that the devastating flood in the north-eastern state was caused due to heavy rainfall in Chi, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Thursday called upon the State government to press Delhi to take up the issue with Chi.

Minister Sarma on Thursday had said that the devastating flood in the north-eastern state was possibly caused due to heavy rainfall in Chi.

“During the floods, we did not have any abnormal rainfall here. I had met the Aruchal Pradesh chief minister, who told me that there was no excess rainfall in that state as well. Then, where did the water come from?… Chi, for mysterious reasons, is not sharing the hydrological data with India,” Sarma had said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The APCC said that if the flood in Assam is really caused due to the water released by Chi, then Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal taking responsibility of his ministerial colleague should immediately move to Prime Minister rendra Modi to take up the matter with Chi.

The APCC said that India can raise the issue during the BRICS summit to be held in Chi from September 3 to 5.
