GUWAHATI, Sept 30: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) and former chief minister Tarun Gogoi congratulated the Indian Government and army for the successful surgical strike carried out on Pakistani soil on Thursday. In a statement issued to the media, Assam BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami stated that the Indian army had avenged the Uri attack where 18 personnel were killed.

“Prime Minister rendra Modi deserves a special appreciation for taking such a bold decision. India has time and again warned Pakistan not to provoke cross border terrorism but they did not paid any heed and carried on supporting terrorism. Due to this factor Pakistan has been labeled as a terrorist state,” Goswami said in the statement.

He also thanked all political parties for supporting the surgical strike initiated by the Indian army.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi congratulated the Indian army for carrying out the surgical strike at identified militant camps across the LoC in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“We are proud of Indian armed forces who have been all along rendering great services even at the cost of their precious lives to safeguard the unity and integrity of our country,” Gogoi said in a statement.

He further stated that the Thursday attack was a befitting reply to the nefarious attack on Indian army base camp at Uri on September 18 and earlier attack at Pathankot.

“Though such strikes took place in 2013 and other times during the previous government besides defeating Pakistan in the last three wars, the country has not learnt any lesson,” Gogoi further said in the statement.

He also urged upon the Centre not remain content with the strike and should make all concerted strategies to isolate Pakistan and to declare it as a terrorist sponsored state. “Such actions will lead Pakistan to discontinue the nefarious activities to destabilize our country,” Gogoi stated in the statement.
