Assam: Honey-trapping of Guwahati Priest Leads to Arrest of 3 Accused

Guwahati: Three people including a woman have been arrested by Police from Fatasil Ambari area in Assam’s capital city Guwahati on charges of allegedly honey-trapping a temple priest.

The woman was involved in blackmailing the priest by sharing obscene videos with him via WhatsApp and then demanding a huge sum of money.

The incident happened in the Fatasil Ambari area of the city. The arrested accused have been identified as Pramod Tiwari, Rajni Kothari and Bhavojit Sen.

According to the Fatasil Police, Rajni is said to have lured priest Bhagirathi Shastri of a temple in the area and then befriended him for nefarious purposes. She reportedly made video calls to the priest on WhatsApp, some of them quite obscene, recorded the videos and then threatened to share them on social media.

That a priest succumbed to the honey- trapping incident is not that extraordinary, especially when a wanton woman is hell- bent in either extorting a huge amount of money or getting the reputation of the priest besmirched.

She is said to have then recorded the entire video session and allegedly tried to extort money from him by threatening to make the videos and photos public on social media platforms if he didn’t pay a huge amount of money. That the videos and photos were salacious is beyond doubt but the priest refused to be cowed down.

The priest subsequently approached Fatasil Police Station in Guwahati and filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the woman and her accomplices.

The police then arrested Pramod Tiwari and Rajni Kothari from Fancy Bazar on Thursday based on the complaint and produced them in court on Friday.

The other accused Bhavojit Sen was reportedly apprehended on the same day the complaint was filed. The police were given custody of the trio for a period of five days. Further investigation is on.
