Assam Police, Lions to salute 25 martyrs

GUWAHATI, August 12: Lions, Lioness and Leo Club of Gauhati Greater, in association with the Assam Police, are going to salute in all 25 martyrs on this Independence Day with a programme – Saluting the Real Heroes – at Fourth APBn at Kahilipara in the city. The families of 25 martyrs –11 of Assam Police personnel, 12 of Army men and two of Forest personnel – will be felicitated at the programme. Addressing the media in this regard, DIG PC Saloi and Fourth APBn Commandant Parthasarathi Mahanta said: “As many as 11 Assam Police personnel had to lose their lives in the State from 2010-2016. Two personnel were killed in 2012, one in 2013, five in 2014, one in 2015 and two in 2016. They will be felicitated at a function at 4th APBn on Independence Day. The programme, to be graced as the chief guest by DGP Mukesh Sahay, will be attended by police, army and other paramilitary personnel staying in Greater Guwahati area like CISF, BSP, CRPF, Air Force, SSB, RPF, SIB, ITBP, Income Tax, Assam Forest, CBI, NIA, Customs and others. The programme will have patriotic songs, folk songs and dances.”  Around 1,000 people are expected to throng the venue. Lion Club office-bearers who were present at the press meet were Lion Pramod Harlalka, Lion Niru Kabra, Lion KK Jain and Lion Neelam Mathur.
