GUWAHATI, March 24: Replying to an unstarred query from Assam MP Ranee rah, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Sudarshan Bhagat informed the Rajya Sabha today that 843.46 tonnes of milk was produced in Assam during 2015-16. Bhagat further said that the total production of milk in the eight States in the Northeast during 2015-16 was 1374.48 tonnes, Assam topping the list. Assam was followed by Tripura with 152.23 tonnes, Meghalaya with 83.95 tonnes, Manipur with 78.97 tonnes, galand with 77 tonnes, Sikkim with 66.74 tonnes, Aruchal Pradesh with 50.13 tonnes and Mizoram with 22 tonnes. Citing tiol Dairy Development Board (NDDB) records, the minister further said that on an average 105.3 thousand litres of milk is sold in the Northeast a day.
