Assamese culture is shaped by Sankardev: Governor

Indian culture is most ancient and very deep-rooted because of its strong link with religion, says Purohit

Guwahati, April 27: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit attended Vishnu Yag organised in sync with Damodar Dev tithi by Deva Damodar Sanskritik Gavesha Kendra at Paltan Bazar here on Thursday to seek blessings for the welfare of the people of the State, a press release said.

Addressing the programme, Purohit said, “Yag holds an important position in our society since ages. It is performed to nip the negative energies in the bud and purify and sanctify the society with positivity. The philosophies of yag teach us to promote good human values and live in harmony with all living being.”

Governor Purohit also said that Indian culture is the most ancient at the same time very deep-rooted because of its strong link with the religion. Though several attempts were made to disintegrate this composite culture, all such attempts were thwarted because of its inseparable link with the religion, Purohit added.

Lauding the culture and the people of Assam, the Governor said, “The Assamese culture and the faith of the people are shaped by the great Vaishvite saint Srimanta Sankardev who has a great influence in promoting and establishing the Assamese culture worldwide. Thanking the organizer for holding the Yag, Purohit said that as the flames of the yag purifies the surrounding by destroying all evil forces, likewise human beings should also lay down their selfishness, ego, hatred etc in the flames to make the society a better place for living. Satradhikar of Patbaushi Satra Shri Guru Krish Goswami, president of Deva Damodar Sanskritik Gavesha Kendra Shri Shiba Prasad Sharma Doloi along with a host of other dignitaries was present at the programme.
