GUWAHATI, Jan 23: The BJP Assam Pradesh has hit back at the Congress for its statement that by taking part in RSS’ Luitporia Hindu congregation in Guwahati recently Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal has made a mockery of the sacrifices made by 855 martyrs for the State. A statement issued to the press on Tuesday, State BJP spokespersons Muminul Aowal and Manoj Baruah said: “The Congress governments in the past in the State never respected the 855 martyrs of Assam. Assamese tiols had to sacrifice their lives during the Congress rule in the State. However, the present collation dispensation at Dispur has been respecting martyrs of the State and working for the welfare of the injured during the Assam Agitation. We don’t feel like reminding once Tihar Jail inmate Ripun Bora of the history of the Assam Agitation. The role of the Congress in any agitation seeking secured future of Assam will continue to remain as a taint. We caution the Congress not to make any such irresponsible statement under survival threat.”
