GUWAHATI, Nov 27: The gargantuan task of crowd magement at Fancy Bazar in Guwahati may ease to an extent as and when the Automated Multilevel Car Parking Project nearby is completed, purportedly in February next.
One of the busiest places in Guwahati is Fancy Bazar. This place witnesses crowds of people everyday coming to buy and sell miscellaneous things. The crowd here becomes unmageable due to lack of proper parking facilities. An Automated Multilevel Car Parking Project was started in 2012 which, however, could not be completed in the past five years due to Centre’s negligence. The project is being funded by the DoNER Ministry.
Speaking to this reporter, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) project engineer Pulak Kalita said, “Taking into consideration the need of a multi-level car parking near Fancy Bazar, the project of automated multi-level parking was started five years back. Almost 80 per cent of the work has already been completed. However, due to Centre’s negligence, we’re uble to complete the project. We have been informed that the DoNer Ministry is going to release the amount by this December. Within three months of the money being released, the parking facility will be ready for use.” The parking facility has the capacity of 258 cars in four modules -A, B, C and D. Mechanical structures of B, C, and D have already been completed. However, electrical works, civil works, fencing, roof canopy etc., are still to be completed due to shortage of forest materials.
According to Kalita, they are frustrated with the delay in the release of funds by the Central Government. The Project Engineer also said that unlike of its kind in Zoo Road, this multi-level parking near Fancy Bazar will have users. Since plans are afoot for a botanical garden in the area, this park will go a long way in crowd magement in the future, he said. Kalita said if fund is poured in as assured, the parking facility will be ready for use by February 2018.
