Automated parking facility has no takers!

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 17: How helpful is the Northeast’s first automated multi-level car parking facility near Sradhanjali Kan on RG Baruah Road, Guwahait for vehicle users?  Is the location well-chosen? The parking facility was completed at a cost of Rs 14.33 crore by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).

This advanced parking lot is Guwahati’s one of the latest structures on infrastructure front that is gossiped about, as often as not. Speaking to The Sentinel, an official said: “The parking was iugurated on October 17 this year for the public. However, we’ve failed in planning. Vehicle users seldom part their vehicles in the parking place. I think the very place of the park is ill-chosen. The response to such a park at other places in the city like Ganeshghuri or Fancy Bazaar would have massive.”

Accurate site selection has much to do in such projects. According to sources, only a few vehicles are seen coming to the parking place. As there is no big mall, market or office, so is there on rush of cars for parking. Most of the city dwellers say the site of the parking place has been ill-chosen. Places likes Ganeshghuri, Chandmari, Fancy Bazaar, Paltan Bazaar etc., would have been more helpful for vehicle users.
