Automobile agency caught red handed taking extra charge

GUWAHATI, Feb 28: The Kamrup (M) DTO (registration) today caught SL Automobiles (Paramount Honda) located near Railway Gate 1 at Maligaon in the city red-handed while charging an additiol amount of Rs 4,000 as brokerage for the registration table at the DTO office. The DTO suspended the trade certificate and trade license of the automobile agency and directed it not to sale, dispose off, remove or add any vehicles from the stock yard until there is specific directive in this regard from DTO (registration).

Acting on a complaint lodged by Bhanu Shankar Rajkhowa, a resident of Panitola in Tinsukia district, the DTO (registration) today went to the automobile agency incognito as a car buyer. When the deal was over, the sales representatives of SL Automobile demanded Rs 4,000 as brokerage charge for registration payable at DTO office over and above the price of the vehicle, insurance, registration fees etc., the DTO said. It is evident that the automobile agency is charging extra bucks illegally from buyers, besides tarnishing the image of the DTO.
