GUWAHATI, Sept 6: State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has informed the State Assembly that the CID has been carrying out an awareness drive in the State on the dreaded game – ‘Blue Whale’.

The issue of ‘Blue Whale’ has assumed much significance in the State along with rest of the world since a student of Assam doing his MBA in Pondichery University fell victim to the game. This apart, the State police rescued as many as twelve students – four each from gaon and Guwahati, two from Baksa and one each from Dhemaji and Tezpur – who had link with the dreaded game.

Patowary informed the Assam Assembly that the State police were on an awareness drive on the dreaded game. “The State CID has already held a meeting with various internet providers on September 1, 2017 so as to find out means to prevent the game from entering the internet network. The CID has also requested the internet providers to carry out an awareness drive on their own also against the dreaded game among the cyber-savvy youths in the State,” Patowary said, and added: “On September 4 the CID held a meeting with around 800 students from Don Bosco School, Guwahati and other schools in the city so as to bring about awareness among them. The students were called to the CID headquarters and instructed with the help of cyber experts as to how they can steer clear such games, if any, on the net. All Superintendents of Police in the State have also been asked to take help from the CID if they find any development relating to Blue Whale in their respective jurisdictions.”
