Awareness rally by K-DAC for disabled voters

MIRZA, April 7:  A mass awareness rally organized by the Kamrup Disability Assistance Centre (K- DAC) under the initiative, ‘The Myvote Campaign’ of Kamrup  Election District Administration was flagged off on Thursday by renowned actor Kapil Bora at Palashbari. The rally was organized in order to spread the message of the need to exercise the ‘right to vote’ by all member of the society irrespective of one’s physical disability.

Participating in the rally Kapil Bora appreciated the initiative taken by the Kamrup Election District for making arrangement in polling stations to facilitate the voters with disability. Kapil also applauded the initiative taken under ‘The Myvote Campaign, Kamrup’ for creating awareness regarding mass participation of voters on the day of poll for making the democracy strong.

Earlier, DC and DEO of Kamrup Vinod Seshan in his speech elaborately highlighted the special initiatives taken in Kamrup to facilitate the voters with disability in casting their votes in polling stations. He also informed basic needs like ramp facilities and wheel chairs at polling stations have been made besides providing Braille brochures for visually impaired, preference to disabled voters, special volunteers for polling booths etc. have been taken in Kamrup district.

The rally was also addressed by DC of South Kamrup Rajib Prakash Baruah, Circle Officer of Palashbari Pankaj Chakrabarty, Ambassador of K-DAC and Executive Director of Sishu Sarathi Arman Ali. Disabled voters of the locality besides students, government officials and NGO members participated in the rally.

The rally started from the Palashbari Circle office and concluded at Bijoygar Bazar Tiniali . Later, members of the K-DAC ( Kamrup Disability Assistance Centre) visited several nearby villages to interact with the villagers to spread the message.

In this connection an exhibition was also held in collaboration with GVM at the Palashbari Circle Office complex on the process of evolution of election.
