AXX demands implementation of Language Act 1960

GUWAHATI, Dec 3: The Rajya Bhasha aru Matribhasha Prayog Upo Samiti (RBMPUS) of Axom Xahitya Xabha (AXX) demanded to implement the Language Act of 1960 of the state properly in all the government and non-government within January 15.

In a press conference in Lalhiram Barooah Sadan of the city today, RBMPUS convener Daso Kalita said, “For the first time in AXX activities, we formed a this special committee for the development of our mother tongue and main communicative language of the State- Assamese and for this, we have formed sub committees in every districts of the state to work on the same. We have seen, the use of Assamese language is reducing its quality and impact on the present social and governmental sectors, which can bring the elopement of the language soon.”

He further said, “ We also have seen that the Assamese officials of the government and non-government sectors have less interest to use Assamese language in their respective offices. We, therefore, demand to use Assamese language in all the government and non-government organizations’ signboards within January 15.”

Kalita also added, “We urge for usage of Assamese language in all the government activities to save the language. In all the recruitment examitions of government jobs, there should be 50 per cent questions in Assamese language, implement the AXX guidelines to make the language readable for all people, Assamese should be included as compulsory subjects till secondary classes in all the central schools and other English medium schools of the state and introduce Assamese medium in Dibrugarh and Gauhati University soon.”
