GUWAHATI, Sept 23: The Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) felicitated four litterateurs of the State at a function in Guwahati on Saturday.
While xahityacharya awards were given to poet-critic Bhaben Baruah, noted critic Upendrath Sarma and noted writer-researcher Dr. Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya, the Sadashya Mahiyan honour went to educationist-researcher Pandit Dr. Ashok Kumar Goswami.
Receiving the honour, Dr. Goswami said: “There’s no dearth of people who neglect Assamese medium schools, the Assamese language and literature even now. The parents, who feel safe having their children educated in English medium schools, don’t think that they’ve deprived their children from learning Assamese. Such a deprivation will lead to diminish their being Assamese. Such a situation may land the Assamese in troubled waters in future.”
At the meeting presided over by AXX president Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bora, Dr. Goswami said: “I do hear and see a number of tive tongues pronouncing our sweet language wrong. The numerous write-ups by scholars on this issue have no impact on them.”
The three who received xahityacharya honour said that such an honour made them more accountable to the Assamese language and literature.
Kumar Bhaskar Verma Sanskrit and Puraton Adhyayon Vishwa Vidyalaya Vice Chancellor Dr. Dipak Kumar Sarma and Krish Kanta State Open University VC Dr. Hitesh Deka were present at the meeting as honourable guests.
