GUWAHATI, June 21:  The Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) is worried over the State Education Department’s move to hold TET for model school teachers only among candidates who are passed out from English medium schools. In a statement issued to the press today, the AXX says that this is blatant violation on the part of the government on its responsibility and duty for the use of Assamese as official language in the State, the historic need of Assamese as the medium of instruction at school level in the State and its responsibility towards language and literature of the State. “Such a step taken by the government is not acceptable. AXX can’t go with such a decision of the State Government. With such a step Dispur is going to pose a threat to the language, literature, culture and identity of the Assamese and various other indigenous communities of the State. This step is set to spell doom all the positive outcome of the language and medium of instruction movement. The state has enough power to bring amendment to any tiol education policy so as to suit the State’s needs. Taking such a decision without an open discussion with the intellectuals and educationists of the State isn’t acceptable. We appeal to set up Assamese medium model schools.”
