GUWAHATI, Sept 9: Preparations for the 74th session of the Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) are afoot. The reception committee of the session is set to hold a meeting with Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on September 11 in the presence of heads of various departments in the State, besides AXX leaders in the Assam Secretariat.
The four-day 74th AXX session slated from February 1 to 4, 2018 is going to be held at Burhidihing-Bordumasa along the Assam-Aruchal Pradesh border, a statement issued by AXX secretary general Paramanda Rajbongshi on Saturday said. The reception committee of the premier literary body led by its president Rameswar Teli has already met Sonowal and had a detailed discussion on holding the AXX session. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister. The team also met separately ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Parimal Shuklabaidya, Pallab Lochan Das, Assembly Speaker Hitendra th Goswami and State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass with memorandums.
Meanwhile, the centery Setu-Bondhon (bridge-building) programme of the AXX was held at zrul Sadan in Hailakandi on Saturday with a daylong programme. A forty-member team of litterateurs and artistes exchanged their views with the litterateurs and intellectuals and the general public of Hailakandi. In the evening there was a cultural programme under the aegis of Dreams. Such a programme will be held on Sunday at Silchar under the aegis of the Silchar branch of AXX at its office there. There will be semir on ‘the Crisis of Existence of Mother Tongue’ will be held on the occasion. The semir will be opened by Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Dilip Paul. In the evening one hundred people will light as many flames.
Meanwhile, the AXX centrally observed the 91st birthday of former AXX president Sudhakantha Bhupen Hazarika in the District Library in Karimganj on Friday.
