AYM drive in city to blacken hoardings not using Assamese

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Feb 19:  Members of the Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) were on a drive to blacken all hoardings, banners and posters that have not used Assamese in the city.
According to AYM vice president Nipon Bora and secretary general Jitul Deka, since February 4 they had been distributing leaflets among the city traders and advertising agencies appealing them to use Assamese in their advertisements. “While a section of traders have responded positively to our appeal, a section hasn’t. We have blackened their hoardings and posters today in protest against their defiance to the appeal,” they said, and added: “A section traders has not only defied our appeal to them. They have also violated the directive issued to them by the Kamrup (M) district administration that did set January 30 as the last date for the use of Assamese in their hoardings and advertisements. It’s unfortute that a section of traders and advertisement agencies refuse to Assamese in the State. We make it crystal clear that we’ll continue our drive in the days to come, and we hope that our district units will follow suits in their respective areas.”
