AYM for Vigilance probe against APSC chief

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 17: The Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) has demanded of the Assam Government to order a Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau inquiry against Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Chairman Rakesh Paul for all anomalies in the APSC.

Addressing the press at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) today, AYM secretary general Jitul Deka said: “Paul has transformed the State PSC into a market of corruption. He is playing with the life of meritorious students of the State. Various parties and organizations have been agitating against him, and the Prime Minister is also aware of it. Despite this, he has not been removed from the APSC post as yet. The people of the State have been nurturing a hope that Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal will remove Paul, who was involved in corrupt practices during the Congress regime, so as to clean the State PSC. However, Sonowal has washed his hands off the matter just by giving some tips to the APSC and asking it to videograph the system of interview, in the me of APSC reforms. Videography of interview and other reforms as advised by Sonowal can’t put an end to corruption in the APSC. Rakesh Paul is a cancer that has spread not only in the APSC but also in the entire State administration. We appeal to the Chief Minister to order an inquiry by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau against Paul as it has been done against DFO Mohat Talukdar. This is because Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau SP Mukul Saikia had already conducted a prelimiry inquiry against Paul, and submitted a report on his assets to the government. Now we demand a full-fledged inquiry against Paul.”

Deka further said: “KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi did file a PIL in the Gauhati High Court demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged corruption by Paul. At that time Paul moved the Supreme with a PIL so as to stop any inquiry against him. The then Congress Government in the State also told the Apex Court through its affidavit not to give permission for CBI inquiry against Paul. If the BJP-led government in Assam is really interested to maintain transparency, it should move the Supreme Court seeking an inquiry against Paul. We don’t have the wherewithal to file a PIL against Paul in the Supreme Court. This is why we’re carrying out a sigture campaign in the State against Paul so as to request the Apex Court to file a suo motu case against the APSC chairman.”

AYM president Pareshdeep Kakati and publicity secretary Dibyajyoti Baishya was also present at the press meet.
