AZARA, Oct 7: There are as many as 13 Durga Pujas in Azara revenue circle. The pujas are at Azara Taluk, Mirzapur Taluk, Dharapur Taluk, Gorol, VIP, Kahikuchi, Raibori, Patgaon etc. The attraction at Dharapur Taluk is the bed of arrows with Bhishma lying on it. There are cultural functions every evening in all the pujas. At the historic Buri Gosaini Mandir at Sajjanpara in the Rani area, the Durga puja began today. A special feature of this puja is that there is no idol for worship. What the devotees worship in this puja, according to practice being followed since the days of the king, is a big machete meant for sacrifice. The puja began today with a royal scion, Jagadish rayan Singha. This is the common puja for around 15 villages in the area, including Bakarapara, Andherijuli, Hathaguri, Gauripur, Goriapara, Rajapanichanda, Nuwapara, Kamalpara, Murari Basti, Satara Gaon, Sajjanpara, Bhakatpara, Jobegaon, Nepali Basti etc. As many as 13 buffaloes will be sacrificed on the Mahashtami day in this puja.
