AZARA, April 28: The threat of artificial flood looms large over Azara as all the tural water passages that have been draining out the rain waters from the area have been blocked over the past few years.

The threat perception has increased many folds following artificial blockage of a culvert in VIP Chowk and the Kalmoni stream.

Adding to the woes of the local residents, following incessant rain since last few weeks, the rain waters have inundated a huge area as the waters are uble to make its way out of the locality due to the artificial blockages mentioned above. Local residents have expressed fear that if it rains a few more days, the rain waters will make it to the homes.

“The improving weather is a sign of relief, but it is unpredictable as it has been raining during the night. If it rains for a few more days, we will have no place to live as waters will enter our residence,” said a local resident.

It may be mentioned that, this situation has arise following careless dumping of garbage in the area, which has blocked the tural as well as manmade draige systems.

With no option left, now the local residents are now turning to the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup to find a solution.
