Bandh total in city, sporadic incidents reported

GUWAHATI, Sept 12: The Assam bandh called by various organizations of the State in protest against the Centre’s exemption to Bangladeshi and Pakistani tiols belonging to minority communities in those countries --  Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Parsis and Bhuddhists -- in their stay in India, was total in Guwahati.

There were some sporadic incidents like burning of tyres, intimidation to people travelling etc. At Khapara in the city, the police had to arrest some people for intimidating people who were outdoor for various purposes. Barring the ASTC buses, the private buses and trekkers were off the road. It was, however, a field day for autorickshaw pullers.

Today being a holiday, all educatiol institutions and government offices in the city and the State were closed. The organizations that called the bandh were Sadou Asom Muttuck Yuba Sanmilani, Sadou Dimasa Chatra Santha, Sadou Karbi Chatra Santha, Sadou Asom Goriya-Moria Desi Jatiya Parishad, Sadou Asom Sonowal Kachari Chatra Santha, AJYCP and others.
