Bangladeshi cultural troupe meets Governor, CM

GUWAHATI, April 9: A Bangladeshi cultural team, which is on a three-day goodwill cultural tour to Assam to facilitate cultural exchanges, met Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Saturday and apprised them of the goodwill message that the team has brought with it to strengthen cultural ties with the State.

. Purohit said that cultural idiosyncrasies and their exchanges have tremendous impact on the overall development of any geographical territory. He also said that the cultural exchanges between Assam and Bangladesh as initiated by this goodwill tour will definitely strengthen existing ties between Assam and Bangladesh.

The Governor also said that though geographically and politically both India and Bangladesh are two different tions, people of both the countries share more or less affinities in fields of history, culture and race. The present cultural exchange programme will definitely boost and strengthen the bilateral relations. He also extended warm welcome to the cultural delegation to Raj Bhavan and assured help in their future endeavours.

Meanwhile, a 14 member cultural delegation led by Hasan Arif, General Secretary of Sanmilito Sanskritik Jot of Bangladesh, called on Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal at his official residence in the city today.

During their nearly 30-minute meeting, Sonowal acknowledged the historical, cultural and ethnic links between Assam and Bangladesh and also said that the present dispensation in the country has been emphasizing on building a strong connectivity link between the India and Bangladesh, as he happily referred to the recent decision of the Government to dredge the Brahmaputra in Assam as well as in Bangladesh to strengthen the connectivity between the two geographical entities.

Sonowal also emphasized more cultural exchanges between Assam and Bangladesh so that the existing mutual relationship can be strengthened to a great extent. He also requested the cultural delegation to carry back the love, affection of the people of Assam to Bangladesh and work on a stronger foundation of friendship and camaraderie. Sonowal also hosted a breakfast party for the cultural troupe.
