Banned notes worth Rs 6 lakh seized, 5 held

GUWAHATI, March 18: The recovery of banned 500-rupee notes worth Rs 6 lakh by sleuths of the Crime Branch with the help Bhangagarh police from the ABC area in the city last night has proved the fact that exchange of banned notes is still going on. Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths arrested four persons associated with the cash from the ABC area in the city and another was arrested from the Hatigaon area. The five have been identified as Bishwa Das hailing from Puthimari in gaon, Joyaur Rahman hailing from Goroimari in Barpeta, Amjad Hussain hailing from Moukamari in Barpeta, Sahnur Ali hailing from Vella in Barpeta and Bidyut Bharali hailing from Hatigaon in the city. A case (56/17) has been registered in this connection in Bhangagarh police station.
