Barak Valley Khasi-Jaintia organizations call on Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Feb 4: The Barak Valley Khasi-Jaintia Welfare Organization, along with the Khasi-Jaintia Development Council Demand Committee, Khasi Students’ Union Assam and the Khasi-Jaintia Mothers’ Wing, Assam called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday. The organizations submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister apprising him of the various problems being faced by the respective communities and also pressed for an autonomous council and ST status. It may be mentioned that the organizations earlier had an emergency meeting of the community leaders on Tuesday. It may be mentioned that Khasi-Jaintia community have a total population of 3.5 lakhs in Assam of which around 1.7 lakh resides in Barak Valley.
