Barpathar roads speak volumes of neglect!

 BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Oct 20: Roads of Barpathar in Dispur constituency are in deplorable state for years. Even after repeated requests to the government no action has been taken as yet. Deprived of any mode of transportation the people living in this area have been suffering a lot.
Speaking to this reporter, Ram Lal Shah, a resident of Barpathar, said: “This area falls under Dispur constituency and Dispur is the capital of Assam. However, sadly enough we don’t even have the minimum transportation facility. The roads have been left in this terrible condition for years.”
“None of the people’s representatives is seen in this area when elections are over. It is only before elections they come here seeking votes by making some false promises on repairing roads. We don’t feel like staying in a city,” he added.
Localities of the area said that during monsoon rains when roads are inundated, the government makes excuses to repair roads during winter, but their winter later never comes.
Chandan Das, another inhabitant of Barpather, said, “We’ve been living in a dream that someday our roads will be built and our connectivity will get a boost. However, it seems that dream will never be translated into reality. Come rain, come shine, our children have to walk kilometres to catch city buses. However, roads are so pathetic that one cannot even walk through it. We’ve no street lights either.”
“When going gets too tough due to poor road condition, we mend roads on our own without waiting for the government. After long apathy by the Congress government we looked up to the BJP-led government for a succor. Sadly enough, our area has not seen any change,” Das added.
