Belgium ambassador meets Sonowal

GUWAHATI, March 20: Belgium Ambassador to India Jan Luykx paid a visit to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal at Jata Bhawan here this evening.

Acknowledging diplomatic relations between India and Belgium, Sonowal drew the Belgium envoy’s attention to sectors like inland waterways, dredging, food processing and development of river ports where Assam and Belgium can work collaboratively.

In his reply, the Ambassador said that several Belgium companies are specialized in the fields of inland waterways, dredging and food processing and can tie up with Assam to take forward the mutual interests.  

Sonowal informed Jan Luykx of the two sports complex coming up in Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur and sought Belgium’s help in extending technical support to make the sports complexes the state-of the art ones. The Belgium envoy said that Belgium can help Assam and invest in sectors like consultancy services, building clean cities, development of urban infrastructure, waste magement, renewable energy etc.

The Belgium Ambassador also lauded the tourism potentials of Assam, especially wildlife tourism and magement of Kaziranga tiol Park where he spent four days in January 2017.  Chief Minister Sonowal thanked Jan Luykx for visiting Assam. He also said that his visit to the state would pave way for a new Assam Belgium relation. Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Commissioner and Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary to Chief Minister Solanki Vishal Vasant were also present at the meeting.
