GUWAHATI, Dec 13: Senior jourlist and writer Radhika Mohan Bhagawati said that the responsibility of jourlists has complicated nowadays, and the jourlists need to be more active on social activities than political activities.

Senior jourlists Bhagawati and Tilak Hazarika were today given away the Lalskhmith Phukan and Harendrath Baruah Memorial awards by Golaghat Press Club in Guwahati today.

The receiving the Lakshmith Phukan Award, Bhagawati said: “True jourlism was seen in Assam before 1083, and I don’t think it’s imperative on my part to say what’s the plight of jourlism after that. The credit of this award doesn’t to go me alone, it goes to the entire jourlistic fraternity in the State.”

Meanwhile, the organizer had to go to the residence of Tilak Hazarika to give away the award as he could not attend the function due to illness.

The award to Bhagawati was given away by senior jourlist Kaksen Deka.
