GUWAHATI, Dec 6: Sankardeva’s vaishvite philosophy, apart from his culture and dance form, attracts people, so said Mattis Delton, a French artiste.

Delton is one among the 12 artistes from Italy and France who have been sweating it out to rehearse dramas in the Madhav Dev Auditorium at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in the city.

The 12-member troupe is going to stage the ‘Ankio- Bhao ‘Ram-Bijoy’ by 15th century saint Srimanta Sankardev on the occasion of Srimanta Sankardev Second Annual Intertiol Festival at the Kalakshetra.

“I am playing the role of Sutradhar, the rrator in the play. The 12 of us are from different countries. We’re united in the process. The power of the culture which Srimanta Sankardev propagated can also be felt as a message of brotherhood, peace, gaiety,” Mattis said.

Mattis said that he also took part in the play ‘Parijaat-Haran’ last year. He admitted that there were challenges in learning the dance steps.

“The language used in the play is Brajavali. It has to be translated into Spanish, in which the play will be staged,” Mattis said. Reaching Guwahati on December 25 December last year, Mattis and his friends got hardly two weeks for the rehearsal.

“Babanda Borpatrogohai, who we fondly call as baba, is a man of honour for all of us. His teaching method is easy to learn. His instructions are very helpful in making follow-up quick,” Mattis said.

The play will be staged from January 8 to 10 at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Auditorium. The Srimanta Sankardev Second Annual Intertiol Festival is an initiative of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra Society to showcase the great creations and contribution of the 15th century saint to Assamese language, literature and culture on the world stage.
