Bhupen award to Sudakshi Sarma

GUWAHATI, April 21: Veteran singer Sudakshi Sarma is going to receive the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Award, 2017 at a function at Beltola Bihutoli in the city on April 25. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal will hand over the award to Sarma.

The award comprises Rs 2 lakh cash, a citation, a memento and an alowan. Beltola Bohagi Utsav Samiti has been giving award this award since 2012.

While Gyada Kakati received the award in 2016, Dipali Barthakur received it in 2015 and Parveen Sulta in 2014. The Bihu Committee is going to celebrate Bohagi Utsav on April 23, 24 and 25. Patmadoi 2017 will also be held during the celebrations with prize money of Rs 2 lakh. While the best Bihu Husori troupe will get Rs 1,00,001, the second best husori to get Rs 51,001, the best dholia to get Rs 30,001 and the best pepuoi (one who blows the trumpet) to get Rs 25,001.

Zubeen Garg, Jitul Sonowal and Priyanka Bharali are going to perform during the celebrations, said Bihu committee’s president Ratul Baruah and general secretary Sanjay Goswami at a press meet in the city today.
