Bid for underage marriage: 3 in police net

GUWAHATI, March 14: A 21-year-old youth, Salman Ali, ended up in police net while trying to marry an underage girl.

Salman, a resident of Goroimari at Chhaygaon took the girl from Tekeliphota with a view to marrying her in the court. They were accompanied by a village arbitrator (matobber) Shamsul Hague and Eanus Ali, a gaonburha. Sniffing a smell near Gauhati High Court, some advocates caught hold of them and handed them over to Latasil police.

The trio told the police that they had been taken to Guwahati by an advocate with the promise of holding their marriage in the court.
