Biotech conclave from Jan 5

GUWAHATI, Jan 3: Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP), in association with Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER), as an Industry partner is organizing the “ASSAM BIOTECH CONCLAVE 2017” on January 5 and 6, 2017 at a city hotel. It is envisaged that this conclave will offer the unique opportunity to understand the possibilities of industry-oriented research and to start entrepreneurial venture in biotechnology and related areas in the north eastern region.

Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal will be the chief guest. He will iugurate the Conclave. State Science and Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Science and Technology  Commissioner & Secretary Dr. K.K. Dwivedi, Biotechnology adviser Dr. Mohd. Aslam, IIT Guwahati Director Prof. Gautam Biswas, Central Silk Board, Bangalore, chairman KM Hanunmantharayappa,  USTM VC Dr. PG Rao, Dibrugarh University Vice Chancellor Dr. Alak Buragohain,  and others will be guests of honour at the event.

Renowned scientists, entrepreneurs, veteran industrialists, incubation specialists, bureaucrats, delegates and dignitaries from all over India will also take part at the conclave.

Addressing the press today, Minister Keshab Mahanta said that although Assam is lagging behind in Science and Technology, the Assam Government is giving much more importance for the uplift of this sector. He said 62 bighas of land has been taken for Biotech Park at Amingaon. “Government has also tied up with IIT, Guwahati for the benefit of the entrepreneurs,” he said.

Guwahati Biotech Park is also organizing a contest entitled ‘Talent Search Contest on Innovative Biotechnology Entrepreneurial Ideas’. The shortlisted participants will present their proposals and the best proposals will be awarded.

The main objective of the conclave is to bring together the policy makers, industry professiols, investment bankers, Angel Investors and academicians to deliberate the latest trends in this sector which will create business and partnering opportunities for its stakeholders and to showcase the facilities and opportunities offered by GBP.

This conclave will revolve around a technical session, a business session, a session on tea research & biotechnology, a session on sericulture biotechnology, a session on entrepreneurship development, innovation & incubation, award ceremony of the best proposal on talent search contest, an MoU signing ceremony with various organizations, unveiling of draft state biotechnology policy for Assam and unveiling of master plan for Guwahati Biotech Park.

This two-day event will have the closing ceremony on January 6, 2017.
