BJP exuberant over victory

GUWAHATI, May 19: The Atal Behari Vajpayee Bhavan - the party headquarters of the BJP State unit - has been in the midst of celebrations right from early morning today as party workers rejoiced the massive victory in the 2016 Assembly elections. The enthusiasm of the party activists was not hard to miss as they undertook a number of performances –– starting from Bihu dance, to playing Holi and bursting firecrackers – and which continued late into the night. The exuberance was not hard to decipher because it was not just another election victory for the party but the very successful achievement of the 'Mission 84' target that it had undertook after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

A number of tiol leaders and State leaders took part in the celebration. BJP tiol General Secretary and Assam election in-charge Ram Madhav, DONER Minister Jitendra Singh, former State BJP unit presidents Indramoni Bora, rayan Borkotoki, Bijoya Chakravorty, RP Sharma, Chandra Shekhar, Himanta Biswa Sharma, amongst others were present.

BJP tiol General Secretary Ram Madhav said, "This is a historic victory for the BJP and also for the people of Assam. We dedicate this victory to Maa Kamakhya, the holy River Brahmaputra and the great saint Srimanta Sankardeva. Today's victory also signifies the victory of our grand alliance with the AGP, BPF, Rabha and Tiwa groups."

Sarbanda Sonowal, who has been camping in Majuli, returned to Guwahati by helicopter at around 4:30 pm. He proceeded to the BJP headquarters in a procession as public on both sides of the road waved and congratulated him.

Welcomed with the beats of dhol, pepa and sankha played by party workers, a visibly overwhelmed Sonowal said that the BJP grand alliance's victory was possible only because of the trust and support of the people.
