GUWAHATI, March 31: Taking government schemes to people’s doors is the mantra the BJP has adopted in the run-up to the panchayat polls slated to be held in the State in 2018.
The State BJP had its office-bearers meeting at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in the city today in the presence of the party’s tiol general secretary Arun Singh and Assam in-charge Mahendra Singh, who is a Minister of State, Uttar Pradesh. Apart from Dhemaji bye-poll slated to be held on April 9 this year, the meeting also had a detailed discussion on the preparedness of the party for the panchayat poll in the State. The meeting was presided over by State president of the party Ranjit Kumar Dass.
Mahendra Singh said: “We’ve our governments both at Dispur and the Centre. This has given us ample opportunities to take the schemes to the doors of the target beneficiaries. This is the duty of the government, and equally ours as well.”
The party is also going to observe the foundation of the party from April 6 to 13 and completion of a year of the government right from block-level. “We’re confident of winning the Dhemaji bye-poll,” Dass said, and added that he himself would camp at Dhemaji for seven days before the poll. Today’s meeting offered a warm felicitation to Mehendra Singh for his win in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Meanwhile, BJP Assam Pradesh president Ranjit Kumar  Dass has issued a notification for all urban local body chiefs of the party asking them not to move any no-trust motion without prior consultation with the party high command. He said that any urban local body chief violating this stricture will be treated as anti-party activity, to be followed by punitive measures.
