BJP hits back at Congress over price rise

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 23: Assam BJP today dubbed the protest staged on Thursday by the workers of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress against price rise, as a ‘drama’.

The APMC on Thursday hit the streets in the city against price rise of essential commodities and accused the ruling BJP of having a nexus with hoarders.

State BJP spokesperson Monoj Baruah in a statement said that the protest staged by Congress is nothing but a drama as it has not taken any steps to curb price rise when it was in power during the last 15 year.

“The Congress in its 15-year tenure did not take any steps to strengthen the infrastructure of the Food and Civil Supply department and public distribution system as a result of which the people of the State have suffered today,” Baruah said.

He said that the Government has already taken various steps to control price rise in the State.

“State Government has already taken strict action against dishonest trader and hoarders. The government is committed to control the skyrocketing of essential commodities,” said the BJP spokesperson.

Members of both Assam PCC and Mahila Congress took out the rally from Dighalipukhuri to the office of Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner raising slogans against price rise.

Later, the Mahila Congress submitted a memorandum to chief minister Sarbanda Sonowal through the deputy commissioner demanding “strong and effective” steps to immediately check price rise. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also participated at the protest rally.
