GUWAHATI, February 15: Emboldened by two successive wins in Assam – the last Lok Sabha polls and the recently-held civic body polls – the state BJP likes to go it alone in the BTAD elections.

Talking to this reporter, state BJP president Siddartha Bhattacharyya said: “Our organization was not that strong in the BTAD. However, the just-concluded civic body elections have made it crystal clear that our organizatiol base in the BTAD is much stronger now. We can go it alone in the BTAD elections now.”

Bhattacharyya, however, said that the party was yet to decide the constituencies where the party would like to filed candidates. “We’re yet to conduct any field study. We have to get a clear-cut picture of our winning possibilities in the BTAD. In order to assess the possibility of our win, we have appointed four in-charges, one for each of the four districts in the Bodo politico-administrative structure. The four in-charges will asses the winning possibility and report us,” he said, and added: “We’ll take the fil decision on fielding candidates and the mes of candidates only after getting a clear-cut picture.”

The state BJP president further said that the party would hold  a series of meetings in the BTAD in order to gauge the party support base there. “The first such meeting will be held at Tangla on February 20,” he added.
